Intergenerational Program - Wesley provides intergenerational activities between seniors and youth that foster mutual, meaningful support. Activities include tutoring, gardening, social activities, and sport programs and other events as desired by the participants. Youth Leadership Development Institute – empowering youth to become leadersWesley Community Center’s Youth Leadership Development Institute (YLDI) affords youth opportunities to learn in a safe, nurturing environment while receiving tutorial assistance, supplemental academic instruction, and organized recreation/physical activity. The YLDI has three foundational principles: Professionalism, Afro centrism, and Service (aka PAS). The PAS symbolizes the qualities needed for moving from membership to leadership, from Wesley to the Greater Dayton Community and, ultimately, to the World.
Professionalism - excellence in character, spirit, and presentation Afro Centrism - ones actions are motivated by African historical and cultural influences Service - defined as selfless devotion to one’s community through proactive deeds.
Camp Harambee - Camp Harambee is a free week long camp for youth ages 13-17. This camp challenges youth physically, mentally, and socially. Youth learn the tools needed to become leaders in their home, school, and community. Skills learned include team building, anger management, how to engage success/failure and communication skills.
